Lebanon HS Moving to Remote; Masks Required District-Wide
Superintendent Seevers sent the following information to Lebanon families Tuesday, January 11, 2021:
Dear Warrior Families,
I have two very important announcements to share with you today:
-
HIGH SCHOOL (ONLY) MOVING TO REMOTE LEARNING - Lebanon High School (only) will move to remote learning beginning Thursday, January 13 through Friday, January 21.
-
MASKS REQUIRED BEGINNING JAN. 12 - Beginning Wednesday, January 12, all Lebanon City School District students will be required to wear a mask to school. Masks will be required in our buildings from Wednesday, January 12 through Monday, January 31. Masks are also required on buses and for all spectators attending indoor events.
Additional Information:

WHY WE ARE MOVING TO REMOTE LEARNING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL - We are moving the high school only to remote learning due to the high number of staff absences district wide. While our high school teachers are teaching remotely, we plan to utilize non-teaching staff at the high school in our other buildings to help fill in where we cannot find substitutes. The high school is best equipped to go to a remote model because students already have their devices and that group of students can pivot more easily to being home alone and learning online. We are waiting until Thursday to move to remote to give our high school students and staff a chance to come to school Wednesday and get themselves organized to begin remote learning Thursday. Teachers will review expectations and schedules with students on Wednesday. Friday will remain a student work from home day as previously scheduled. School work will be posted in Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or Remind. Students are to work at their own pace. There will not be any live instruction done online that day.
-
IF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT NEEDS MEALS - High School students who need meals while the high school is remote may pick up food at Lebanon High School between 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, January 18. Please fill out this form by 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 13 to sign up.
-
WE ARE WE MOVING TO A MASK REQUIREMENT - In August we built guidelines around what would trigger a mask requirement. Those guidelines specified that when the three-day average of student absences reached or exceeded 15 percent of enrollment by building, masks would be required for three weeks. Student absences counted in that percentage include absences due to isolation, quarantine, excused or unexcused absences.
Lebanon High School’s three-day absence average reached 17 percent today. Our other buildings are also trending high:
Lebanon Junior High: 15.97 % three-day average student absences as of Jan. 11
Berry: 16.19 % three-day average student absences as of Jan. 11
Donovan: 15.85 % three-day average student absences as of Jan. 11
Bowman: 14.58% three-day average student absences as of Jan. 11
-
TYPES OF MASKS RECOMMENDED AND ACCEPTED - A 3-ply-N95 mask is the best protection against COVID at this time due to the high transmission rates of the new variant. Cloth masks are accepted.
-
ATHLETICS - In-season athletic practices and interscholastic competitions will continue (basketball, bowling, cheerleading, swimming, and wrestling) on evenings and weekends. Masks will be required to be worn on buses and indoors when not participating. Spectators attending indoor events will also be required to wear masks. Out-of-season training sessions will be put on hold during this time. In-season youth organizations (basketball & wrestling) who have space reserved will be able to continue, abiding by these same guidelines.
-
FRIDAY IS A WORK FROM HOME DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS AS PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED - District wide, all students will work from home Friday, January 14 as previously scheduled. It is a teacher work day. Your child’s teacher will be communicating expectations and assignments for them to complete. School work will be posted in Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or Remind. Students are to work at their own pace. There will not be any live instruction done online that day.

FOR MORE INFORMATION visit our website - click on the COVID INFORMATION link in the top banner.
We are currently seeing a high number of cases in our school buildings and in our community. As a community there were more than 700 new cases of COVID reported within the past two weeks, which is nine times more than we had in August when we pivoted to a mask requirement. Our community began seeing significant spread over the holiday break and those numbers have continued to escalate in the past two weeks. A large number of our student and staff illnesses are originating outside of school but we are experiencing significant spread inside of our buildings. At this time, we are compelled to intervene and all must be responsible to do our part in slowing down this current surge.
