Home Education
How to home educate your child
In Ohio, parents interested in educating their children at home may do so by notifying their local school district superintendent. When proper notification is provided, the district superintendent releases the student from required compulsory school attendance. This excuses the student and family from school attendance requirements in state law.
Parents or guardians who decide to home educate their students are completely responsible for choosing the curriculum and course of study. They select the curriculum and educational materials and take responsibility for educating their children. There is no state financial assistance for families who choose this option.
In order to exempt a child from school attendance, parents or guardians must submit a notification to the resident school district superintendent by the thirtieth day of August every year or within five calendar days after commencing home education, moving into a new school district, or withdrawing from a public or nonpublic school.
The notification must provide:
1- the parent's name and address
2- the child's name
3- an assurance that the child will receive education in the required subject areas (English language arts, mathematics, science, history, government, and social studies)

Send the information to Isaac Seevers, Superintendent, at 160 Miller Rd., Lebanon, Ohio 45036 or e-mail the notification to Kim Gregg at gregg.kim@lebanonschools.org
The district will send a written acknowledgement not later than 14 calendar days after receiving the notice.
