Lebanon Teacher Invited to White House
Posted on: January 14, 2025
Melissa Johnson, a Kindergarten teacher at Bowman Primary School, has made a lasting impact on Lebanon and beyond. Over winter break, she experienced a truly historic moment—an invitation to the White House to meet President Biden and witness the signing of the Social Security Fairness Act into law!
Before becoming an educator in 2004, Melissa had a successful career in the business world. For the past 21 years, she has dedicated herself to teaching Kindergarten to our youngest Warriors. Melissa plans to retire at the end of this school year. When she learned that her Social Security benefits from her previous career would be reduced, she reached out to Congressman Greg Landsman and worked tirelessly to advocate for herself and millions of other public employees—teachers, police officers, firefighters, and postal workers—who were also affected by reduced benefits.
Melissa's advocacy culminated in a once-in-a-lifetime moment as she stood beside President Biden, witnessing the signing of this legislation. Melissa, we are so proud of you!
