September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Posted on: September 20, 2022

Onward Lebanon
is our monthly TV program designed to provide insight into our district, our students, our people, and our programs. It can be viewed at select times on Lebanon's City Channel 6 or on demand on the Lebanon Channel online.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and this month's episode highlights the student-led club called Hope Squad. Hope Squads are school-based peer-to-peer suicide prevention programs. Hope Squads formed at both Lebanon High School and Lebanon Junior High School during the 2019-2020 school year.

In this interview with Superintendent Isaac Seevers, Hope Squad advisors Jessica Houdieshell and Josh Chasteen, together with students Randi Hill and Cash Chandler, discuss the work the Hope Squads are doing at their schools to create positive mental health awareness:

There are resources available to you to share concerns and talk to someone if you are feeling stressed:

  • OHIO CARELINE - The Ohio CareLine, a toll-free emotional support call service created by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services: call 1-800-720-9616 to connect. Behavioral health professionals staff the CareLine 24 hours a day, 7 days/week. They offer confidential support in times of personal or family crisis when individuals may be struggling to cope with challenges in their lives. When callers need additional services, they will receive assistance and connection to local providers.

  • CRISIS TEXT LINE - Text the keyword “4hope” to 741 741 to be connected to a trained Crisis Counselor within 5 minutes. Any person may need help in coping with a stressful situation. Reach out by text to communicate with someone trained to listen and respond in a method that is private, secure, and confidential.

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline - We can all help prevent suicide - text or call 988. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention and crisis resources for you and your loved ones.
