Some of the things our Counselors do in the building:

Visits the Classrooms monthly

Provides Short-term Solution-focused individual counseling - Please note, school counselors do not provide therapy

Facilitates Small Groups
-
Various small groups meet throughout the school year

Groups meet for approximately six weekly 30 minute sessions

Workshops meet monthly and cover a variety of topics

Groups may include:

Self Esteem, Anger management, Social Skills, Kinship, Anxiety, Divorce/Separation, Social Skills, Emotional regulation

Collaborates with teachers and caregivers to promote social/emotional, academic, and career development.

Collaborates with our school-based therapist, Mrs. Andrea Powers (Cincinnati Children's’ Hospital)

Collaborates with our School Social Workers, local community, and other support programs to provide additional services and support for our students and families
Referring your child to the counselor
Referrals to see the counselor can come from the student, parent, caregiver, teacher, or other DES staff members. If you would like to request that the school counselor meet with your child for a specific concern, or are interested in receiving therapy from our CCHMC school-based therapist, please do not hesitate to contact our counselors by completing this form: Parent-Caregiver request for Counseling services at DES.

Susan House - 3rd Grade Counselor
Mrs. House joined the Donovan Elementary Staff during the 2019-20 school year. Mrs. House received her Bachelor of Arts from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Elementary Education. Prior to becoming a school counselor, Mrs. House taught 2nd grade for 1 year and 4th grade for 9 years in Southeast Indiana. She earned her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Xavier University. Mrs. House has 24 years of experience as an Elementary School Counselor. Prior to coming to Lebanon City Schools, she was a counselor in Indiana for 15 years and 4 years with Wyoming City Schools.
Tiffany Wells - 4th Grade Counselor
Mrs. Wells grew up in Middletown, graduated from Middletown High School, went to Miami University in Oxford, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education. She taught for several years prior to deciding to go back to school for a Masters Degree. At Xavier University she majored in Professional Counseling and School Counseling. She worked in the mental health field for several years with both young adults and older adults in a clinical setting. She then returned to the school setting as a school counselor at Elda Elementary in Ross Local Schools. She and her husband have one son - he is a swimmer so they spend most nights and weekends at a pool or swim meet. They also enjoy going to the beach and hiking in Sedona.
